The Start
It all starts with passion.
Hello, and welcome to my website! My name is Johannes. I have been a photographer for over six years. It all started with my passion for aviation. When I was a child, I often went to our local airport with my dad. Mostly at weekends. I have always been fascinated by watching aircraft take off and land. This slowly turned into a passion for aviation. After a while, I received my first camera as a Christmas present. It was the legendary Nikon Coolpix P900 with its crazy zoom, ranging from 24 mm to 2000 mm. You could even take photos of aircraft cruising at 40,000 feet! I still remember sitting outside our house and watching the airplanes fly by during the Corona period. Damn, that was almost six years ago – I'm getting old! Anyway, moving on.
After a while, I started to get more and more into aviation photography, constantly learning new techniques and improving on my editing in Lightroom. I got the opportunity to upgrade my camera gear, thanks Uncle! I made a huge upgrade and got a Sony Alpha 7r iii with a 24-70mm, and a couple of months later the 100-400mm lens. At that time it was one of the best camera gear you could get, at least in my opinion. I had this setup for almost six years and travelled mostly to Norway and Iceland with it. It was an amazing camera and I was really sad to see it go. But if one door closes, another opens — more on that later. Anyway, over the years, I started taking pictures of other things besides airplanes. I really enjoyed taking pictures of ships (my second passion, maritime photography) and also of nature, especially at night. Taking a beautiful long exposure is simply awesome. For me, a long exposure of an aircraft waiting on the tarmac or a cargo vessel moored in a port with working lights on is simply art.
As I mentioned above, when one door closes, another opens. That’s what’s happened to me. As you get older and start working, you earn adult money, and with adult money, you can simply buy whatever you want. And so I did. I said goodbye to the Alpha 7r iii, and upgraded to the Sony Alpha 1 Mark ii, and I can tell you, it’s a hell of a beast. This thing shoots at 30 frames per second at 50 megapixels. The autofocus is faster than any racecar, and with its beautiful design, it makes for me, one of the best cameras ever built. To complete the absolute dream setup, I got myself the Sony G Master 300mm f2.8 lens with both teleconverters (1,4x and 2x). I can tell you, this setup is my absolute dream.
In the future, I want to photograph more airplanes, ships, and nature, but I also want to start photographing race cars, especially in the green hell at the Nürburgring. Also, animals are on the to do list. You can tell from this blog that I simply like photography. Let’s see what the future has in mind. I got a trip planned in October where I will visit Iceland. I can’t wait to go there and take pictures. If you want to see the pictures and read my blog about that trip, feel free to visit my website at any time soon. So, for now, thank you very much for reading about my story and happy photographing!

This is Condor flight DE1557 arriving from Jerez. An Airbus A320-271Neo, painted in Condor's Red Passion livery. With the beautiful evening and a shutter speed of 1/50 of a second, this makes for a stunning panning shot of the aircraft.
